Paws to Enjoy Life!

This layout was inspired by the name I chose for my blog (Pawsitively Creative Crafts). I have been in the Veterinary field for over 10 years and I couldn't see myself doing anything else. Some days are hard and some days I wouldn't change anything. Loves it!

This layout features one of my furry babies, Nanook. I used Archival ink non-toxic (making sure it wouldn't harm him in any way first) to apply his paw print to my canvas. TIP: I gave him a little bit of peanut butter to help keep him happy while I played with his feet. Can you tell he doesn't mind nail trims? He is a good baby.

I painted my canvas with gesso first, then used Luminarte and Dylusions sprays until I achieved the look I wanted. Nanook has gorgeous blue eyes so I kept that in mind. After spraying/misting I cut cardstock out and layered it behind his picture. Then I added some gears/cogs, lace and ribbon that I UPCYCLED from an old belt.

The last part was adding in his paw print in the bottom left hand corner. It didn't go as well as I planned but at least it looks like a paw print! I noticed that his eyes didn't pop with color because of the black and white picture so I mixed up an ice-blue color to match his eyes and painted it on the picture with acrylic paint.

This canvas will be entered into the following challenges:

LESSology Challenge #37: Animal Kingdom (HERE)

Opus Gluei #185-Animals (HERE)

Thanks for reading and leaving your lovely comments. It brightens my day! Carpe Diem! ~€

  1. Aww your Nanook is adorable!!! I love your mixed media canvas. Perhaps I should try something similar with my Bear?! :)
PS: I love how the tip of Nanook's tongue is peeping out in that photo of him in his bed. LOL Bear does the exact same thing and until seeing Nanook doing it I've never ever come across another dog that does it!!!! :P

    1. Thank you Lizzy! He was really a good sport about me trimming his paw hair, then inking it and applying his paw to my canvas. Peanut butter is his kryptonite (spelling?)! :p

    3. Electra-the BG color was difficult because I kept getting little air bubbles and when it dried the white gesso would show through. So I just kept spraying it. Lol.
