Alas, it is time for a new challenge at Anything But Cute and this month I happen to be the hostess. Oh boy! Nerves and excitement here. This is a Mixed Media Makeover! I would love to have you pull out an old card, tag, project, masterboard or embellishment that you weren't completely happy with or never completely finished. I want you to recycle it. We all make "mistakes" with our art right? Now's your chance to fix it. Redo it, hide the mistake, make it bigger, make it better, make it more beautiful or rip it apart and use the pieces! Give it a mixed media makeover! For this challenge you will need to include a beforepicture so we can see what you started with!
Here is my before: don't laugh too hard :)
My first ever attempt at "Shabby Chic"(seriously what was I thinking!). I had this gorgeous idea in my head but the end piece was NOT even close. So I revamped it into this: dark chaotic textural fun!
The first thing I did was to rip off everything on the original, (the mini canvases would not come off-E6000 works superbly) and tear strips of paper into random shapes to add texture. I applied black gesso to the entirely too pink canvas.
I used my cracked stencil and then rubbed Inka Gold Copper over the dried texture paste.
I really wanted my sentiment to be: Create Without Fear but the words were too big to fit on the mini canvases so I improvised. I used chipboard lettered and heat embossed those with copper EP, then rubbed some Copper Inka Gold over those as well.
Total makeover! I hope you all can join and and also take a look at the designs my teamies have come up with. Have fun and Carpe Diem! Hugz! ~Niki

Wow, Niki, what a brilliant transformation! I just adore that grunge patina look! Oh my, this is beyond stunning! Fantastic idea to wrap the cord around your canvas, it's such a perfect addition to this wonderful piece! Great textures and colours! Amazing, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHuge hugs to you! Branka xxx
This turned out wonderfully! Love the pics to show how you made this amazing canvas! Thanks for sharing with us at Dragons Lair Designs this month!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry got my hats mixed up! Thanks for playing with us this month at Rhedd's Creative Spirit!
ReplyDeletePunkin, dear!
ReplyDeleteYou have stolen my heart with this hugely successful and grungy transformation! I love your yummy, yummy colors, your texture (psst...enter this into Mixed Media World, sweetie), and the way you rescued the mini canvas's is just genius! Your crackle turned out the BEST, and I have got to use that cracked stencil; I have it, but never used it yet. Thank you for the wonderful inspiration with this delightful canvas! By the way, you really have to FEEL Shabby Chic to get it...I will never have the ability to do real Shabby Chic, because I just don't have the Chic part in me!
It's funny when I first saw this, my mind read Art Without Fear! Just goes to show, two great minds think alike, and I must re-read everything due to poor reading comprehension!! I'm happy you got a chuckle out of my post this morning, and that I was not the only one late to the party this morning! The ONE day I sleep late, blogger has to, too! Can't figure out what I did wrong, but then, I AM a tech-y dinosaur! I haven't even linked mine up to challenges yet, because I don't know if you can do that When you schedule posts in advance. Can you? By the way, do you know you won SSS yet???? Congrats! and Big Hugs to you!
I have been having the same issues lol! I have a habit of going too pretty and too girly but I am trying and experimenting so maybe in the end I will get there.
ReplyDeleteYour transformation is awesome and gives me hope and inspiration that I will hopefully get there sometime in the future. I know I need to get more supplies when I can and I hope that will help and encourage me to be much freer and daring. Thank you Niki for sharing your before and after Karen x
This is a great makeover Niki, just proves it's worth hanging on to those 'not so sure' projects.
