Art journaling and a bully?

Hello lovely artists! I do hope your week has been going amazingly well. This is my very first time with an art journal (it was on clearance and I thought hmmm-possibly?). I did this art journal because I recieved a rather tumultuous email from an anonymous cyber person. This is my response to the email:

The basic gist of the email was to call me out as lucky, but not an artist, mixed media or otherwise. The person sending the email wanted to know how I was on a specific design team when I don't have the talent to even compare to my teamies. Mean words, and something I pondered for over a week. My dear hubby told me he earased the email and said, "put your feelings into a new art piece". So I did. All I really want is something beautiful to say-the sentiment in this art journal is my way of saying:hey, I can create anything I want and feel good about my talent. I may not be the best and I am still new to mixed media, but, I sure do enjoy the process! I especially enjoy the wonderful people I have met through my art. So thank you to the person that sent that email to me. You got me down for a minute but you will never knock me out!

Now for my process:
I started by spraying LSG sprays and then inking up the entire background with my Papillon stamp set.
I then added some Sea Breeze DecoArt acrylic paint with an old credit card and stamped a flower image (Rubber Dance Art Stamp-thanks Bibi!) with the same acrylic paint.
I then added some washi tape in random sections and fussy cut my butterflies. I edged all the butterflies with a Copic marker and placed them as if they were growing.
I then added the cluster of flowers. I dabbed some matte mod podge on the flowers then sprinkled some pink distress glitter over that for some sparkle. My buddy Bubbles-aka Pamellia of My Little Craft Things taught me that trick for the flowers.

Here is a sort of close up of the two pages. (Picture above and pic below)

The chit chat stickers were edged withy black archival ink.
Thank you for stopping by and reading a bit about what has happened. I don't usually share personal emails on here but this one struck a nerve and I am sure I am not the first person this has happened to. I am just so happy to know that blog land is such a wonderful place to share this. Ya'll are awesome sauce! Carpe Diem! Hugz!         ~Niki

I would love to share this design with the following lovely challenges:

  1. It is unfortunate that angry people take out their frustrations on others! I love your journal page! I do a lot of mixed media and the great fun is that there is not right or wrong, just lots of fun and wonderful discovery! Just let all your feelings flow through your fingertips. You did a good job with this page and I look forward to seeing more of your mixed media work in our challenge at 613 Avenue Create!

As for the rest of it, I'm going to email you because I don't think people would like the language I'm about to use in reference to that yahoo!

  10. Hi Niki, it's a great journal page and very creative and a brilliant way to answer such a nasty email. I also think that this person is probably just jealous and mean and to do something like that anonymously, is just a coward and not worth taking any notice of.
    Hugs, Avril x

  12. Sooooooooo I do this thing where, after I enter a challenge, I look through the gallery and click through to the other linkup designs that look pretty or interesting. That's how I got here. I saw your work in the gallery and wanted to see more. So that bully can suck it because you are SO incredibly talented and inspiring. I stop by over and over again to look at your process, creativity and awesomeness. This journal page is a true work of art. Sending big hugs!

  13. A powerful and beautiful journal page Niki created by a very talented and artistic person, you are very talented and any design team would be honoured to have you as a member. Don't listen to the trolls, they live under bridges and hide for a reason, ugliness and hate can never stand up to the beauty and truth that is embodied in your art. Keep on creating my friend, I love everything you do! Deb xo

  14. Punkin, I am so pleased you took a little bit of negativity and allowed it to be such a positive and creative journey for yourself, and for US! Your first art journal page is just fantastic! I love your colors and those beautiful butterflies. I am in love with your idea to make the butterflies "grow", and I think you have portrayed that so effectively. Niki, I really am so proud of your response to adversity; I really need to take a page from your book! I'm proud that you stepped out and started an art journal (something I keep saying I'm going to do), and proud to call you teamie (and a wonderfully, Humongously talented one, at that!)! Huge hugs and lots of love to you, sweetie!

  24. Your journal page is absolutely gorgeous and I love the words you chose!! It truly saddens me that there are people out there who would be so mean - I guess they must have such horrible lives that they have to try to inflict their pain on others. Your response is perfect as well as beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing it with us at Frilly and Funkie.

  25. Jeepers... how dare they? For starters if they can't sign their name to something then that opinion is already worthless as far as I'm concerned. From there, I'm sure Shelly is right and it can only come from their own lack of worth. There is nothing to ponder in such anonymous nonsense.

As your page clearly shows, you express yourself in your work - and if that's not art I don't know what is.
